Nate Berkus & I are on the same page when it comes to Interior Design. I believe that the moment you step through the door, your home should rise up to meet you! Making the effort to transform your home into a functional and attractive place of refuge is vital to your mental health!

Years ago when I was at Virginia Commonwealth University earning my degree in Interior Design, the emphasis was on consistency and period-specific furnishings. It was easy to look at a well-designed room at that time and determine what the designer was thinking – everything was very predictable.  Today there is much more freedom and acceptance when creating a living space – even the term “living space” is a more appealing way to convey the idea of a “place to be” instead of the word “room.”   We want these spaces to be comfortable and pleasurable; to be surrounded by the things we love that remind us of people and places that have meaning to us.

My intention in creating a living space for you is always to make your needs and desires the primary focus of design.  What will be your purpose for the space?  Who will use it?  What time(s) of day will it be in use?  What existing furnishings will we be using?  Answers to questions such as these form the foundation on which the room design will be built.  You & I are co-designers in the project – your input determines the direction in which it will go.

You can create a living space that is uniquely yours without spending a fortune. You can achieve a new look at minimum expense just by re-purposing existing furniture or applying a fresh coat of paint. The right accessories can change a room beyond recognition! The buzz-words now are streamline – organize – declutter!
